INGLEWOOD BIRD SANCTUARY

ORGANIZATION– City of Calgary

LOCATION – Inglewood Bird Sanctuary

OBJECTIVE – Suppress invasive smooth brome

AREA – 8400 square metres

PRODUCT – 1000 gsm weed suppressant matting. 80-20 Hemp/wood fibre with 100% biodegradable cellulose scrim backing.

INSTALLATION METHOD – Cut smooth broome to 1cm, install weed suppressant matting using biodegradable wooden stakes, add 40cm of top soil across entire area, plant a variety of native species into top soil

BOWMONT, CALGARY

ORGANIZATION – City of Calgary

LOCATION – Bowmont Park

OBJECTIVE – Suppress invasive smooth brome

AREA – 8650 square metres

PRODUCT – 7400 square metres of 1000 gsm weed suppressant matting. 80-20 Hemp/wood fibre with 100% biodegradable cellulose scrim backing. 1250 square metres of 300 gsm, testing weed suppressant properties.

INSTALLATION METHOD – Cut smooth broome to 1cm, install weed suppressant matting using biodegradable wooden stakes, add 40cm of top soil across entire area, plant a variety of native species into top soil.

REVELSTOKE, BC

ORGANIZATION – Parks Canada

LOCATION – Beaver Lodge Bike Park

OBJECTIVE – Suppress invasive weed species

AREA – 1200 square metres

PRODUCT – 1000 gsm weed suppressant matting. 100% hemp fibre with 100% biodegradable cellulose scrim backing.

INSTALLATION METHOD – Cut invasive weed down to 1 inch, then top soiled on top of weeds. Installed matting on top of top soil and around already existing native plants. Planted a variety of other native plant species into top soil.

TORONTO, ON

ORGANIZATION: The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority partnered with the City of Toronto to help remove invasive species and replant native species along the lakefront with local community groups

LOCATION: Colonel Sam Smith Park City of Toronto

OBJECTIVE: Local birders had been finding songbirds were getting stuck in the plants and dying. The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority has partnered with the City of Toronto and local community groups in order to restore the area affected by the burdock

PRODUCT: 100% biodegradable Terrafibre hemp weed suppressant blanket

INSTALLATION METHOD: Removal of burdock, hemp roll laid, 50 native shrubs planted, covered in a thick layer of mulch
