Stronger, Healthier Root Development
TerraFibre Growing Cubes
An all natural growing media for starting seeds or transplanting cuttings made from industrial hemp. Terrafibre growing cubes combine two parts of the industrial hemp plant to provide an ideal growing environment.

Description
Bast fibres are high in water holding capacity and provide the strength for roots to attach to. Hurd is the larger “woody” fibres that increase air porosity in the cube.
Terrafibre growing cubes are a sustainable alternative to rockwool, peat moss, or coconut. Hemp is primarily farmed for its seed and the stalk/fibre is traditionally wasted. Through innovative processing and heat sterilization we are able to upcycle the fibres to create a truly sustainable growing media.
Our growing cubes are completely biodegradable and compostable. Hemp fibre is an incredibly strong fibre so will take 1-2 years to break down completely. Add to garden soil to help break up clay soils and increase water absorption.
Instructions
1. Soak or wash with Ph adjusted water/nutrient solution.
2. Place seed or cutting in the hole of the Growing Cube
3. Place in warm humid environment until the seeds germinate or cuttings take root.
4. Transplant once true leaves are established or roots penetrating cube.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Growing Cubes used for?
The Terrafibre Hemp Growing Cubes are an all natural growing media for starting seeds or transplanting cuttings.
The Terrafibre Hemp Growing Cubes are an all natural growing media for starting seeds or transplanting cuttings.
Terrafibre Growing Cubes combine two parts of the industrial hemp plant to provide an ideal growing environment. Bast fibres are high in water holding capacity and provide the strength for roots to attach to. Hurd is the larger “woody” fibres that increase air porosity in the cube. We use a starch-based binder to hold it all together.
Can the Grow Cubes be used in a net cup like rockwool in a hydroponic set-up?
Yes it can! We designed it to be a environmentally friendly replacement for rockwool. In a hydroponic setup, be sure to have appropriate filtering as there is a small amount of fibre that can come off the cube, and you’ll want to capture it so it doesn’t clog up your pumps.
I usually use Rockwool or coconut coir for my cubes. Do these perform the same way?
Yes, the growing cubes are a sustainable alternative to rockwool, peat moss, or coconut.
How long does it take for the growing cubes to break down?
Our growing cubes are completely biodegradable and compostable. Hemp fibre is an incredibly strong fibre so will take 1-2 years to break down completely. Even if it hasn’t fully broken down yet, add it to your soil to help break up packed dirt and increase water absorption.
What sizes are the Growing Cubes available in?
Currently we have 1.5 inch and 2 inch cubes available. Come this fall we will have available our 2” cubes, 4” block, 40” slab, and loose fill (1cm crutons).
What is the benefit of using Hemp?
Hemp is an all natural fibre that encourages healthy growth for seedlings and transplanting. Hemp is primarily farmed for its seed and usually the stalk/fibre is traditionally wasted. We upcycle the fibres to create a truly sustainable growing media. Hemp fibres have a high water holding capacity, and insulation properties. This creates a warm and moist environment to grow. The water holding capacity keeps seeds wet during germination and growth. Unlike other products like rockwool, hemp is 100% biodegradable, which means used cubes can be composted.
Can they be transplanted into other hemp products?
Yes! We are currently developing a 4 inch block, a slab and loose fill to be used for transplanting purposes. You will be able to transplant the starter cubes into these products.
